Teaching
Successful Study Skills

Outline

Much research in the past twenty years has looked at how we learn and how to make this process more effective. We all have an individual learning style and understanding this can enhance all study, homework, revision and exam techniques. Jane learned the techniques of Tony Buzan whilst still at school and so has experience of using Mind Mapping®, Speed Reading, and Memory Techniques for the last 22 years. She has been called a "pioneer who was ahead of her time" when in 1988 she first started teaching her own interpretation of Learning How to Learn Techniques. Jane has taught many of the tutors and lecturers who now run dyslexia centres and training courses and have published books on study skills.

The course is suitable for teachers or parents who want to teach study skills to students from 11 -18 years of age. There are many topics that are included in Study Skills:

organisational skills
memory
note-taking
essay writing
speed-reading
revision and exam technique

Participants who have attended a Learning to Learn or Memory Theory course will have covered some of these topics already. However the subjects will be introduced with reference to how to teach them to pupils.

There are two groups of pupils who find study skills useful: those who wish to learn alternative techniques to improve their abilities at school and those who are experiencing difficulties with their school work.
